Jadzia Dax was one of the main characters on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. She was from an alien race called the Trill, and she was host of a symbiont with whom she had a shared consciousness. Trill symbionts were long lived and could have several different hosts. Each new host would have the memories of all previous hosts, and the experience of several lifetimes. Jadzia was the science officer aboard Deep Space 9, and she was the wife of Worf, son of Mogh.
Jadzia is a diminutive of the Polish name Jadwiga, which means "safety in battle." Jadwiga was also the name of a famous Polish ruler. In 2014, 19 girls were named Jadzia in the United States.
